Let us clear up a common misunderstanding first: Sandals Royal Bahamian is open. The closure people still mention dates to 2020, it served a fifty-five-million renovation, and the hotel reopened in February 2022. The property that is actually closed is Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma, being converted into a Beaches resort.

Here, at the western end of Cable Beach on some fifteen acres, you will find 404 suites, ten restaurants, eight bars, four pools and a private island reached by ferry. The formula is all-inclusive in the full sense: standard gratuities, airport transfers, Wi-Fi and scuba diving for certified divers are all covered. And the hotel charges no resort fee, which is becoming rare in the Bahamas.

One condition of entry to know above all: this is a couples-only hotel, eighteen and over.

Couples only, and that means couples

Sandals accepts no solo travellers, no groups of friends sharing a room, no children. This is not simply adults-only: it is a house built around the couple, with the largest over-water wedding chapel in the network, seating up to sixty-four. A family or a group of friends should look at Breezes, the Warwick or the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar.

Barefoot Cay, the island that closes early

Former Balmoral Island is now Sandals Barefoot Cay, reachable only by the hotel's ferry. It holds two beaches, a pool, a swim-up bar, an infinity hot tub, the Aralia House restaurant, a Red Lane Spa garden and good snorkelling ground.

The ferry runs roughly hourly from nine in the morning into late afternoon, and the island closes in early evening. It is a daytime experience, not a sunset setting. Plan accordingly: the island deserves at least one full day.

The beach, said honestly

Cable Beach sand is fine and white, the water clear and generally flat. But this hotel's beach is small for a Sandals of this calibre, smaller than South Coast or Emerald Bay. Shaded spots run short at peak hours, and travellers without a butler rise early to claim loungers.

The setting is urban, too. Nassau is a working city, not postcard isolation. For travellers who want the end of the world, other properties in the network suit better, and your advisor will say so plainly at 1 866 628-6241.

Ten tables, two trucks and eight bars

Kanoo holds the buffet and Caribbean, Tesoro Italian, Kimonos Japanese teppanyaki, Butch's Island Chop House grills, La Plume French, Soy sushi, The Queen's Pearl the British pub, Gordon's on the Pier the jetty, the Calico Café the casual slot, and Aralia House seafood on the private island. Two trucks, Coco Queen and Sweets N Tings, fill the gaps.

Among the eight bars, the Balmoral Bar with live piano, several pool bars and Mr B's for cocktails. One caution guests raise: evening dining reservations open early and go fast. Book yours the day you arrive.

Three tiers, and the building changes everything

The Luxury tier covers the base categories. Club Sandals adds a round-the-clock lounge and daytime concierge service. Butler Elite gives you a personal butler trained by the British guild and round-the-clock room service: this is the tier that opens the signature suites, including those with a gentle sloping entry into a lagoon from a walled patio, and the Island Village villas with private pools.

A piece of advice few sellers give: the building matters as much as the category. East Bay, West Bay and the Island Village have distinctly different moods. A guest placed wrong feels stuck all week. Tell your advisor what you want and have the preferred sector noted on the file.

What is included, what is not

Included: all meals, unlimited drinks with brand-name spirits, standard gratuities, airport transfers, Wi-Fi, unlimited scuba for certified divers at two dives a day, kayaking, paddleboarding, catamarans, snorkelling, four lit pickleball courts, a tennis court, entertainment, the private island and its ferry.

Extra: Red Lane Spa treatments, off-site excursions, professional photography, fine wines and champagnes by the bottle, dive certification courses, the private candlelit dinner, room service for non-butler categories, and the butler's gratuity, the only tip expected.

The condition of the place

The score sits at 4.1 out of 5 across nearly fourteen thousand reviews, making it the most reliable sample in Nassau. Recurring complaints cover butler service that varies between shifts, rust and damp in some bathrooms, occasional shortages of hot water, sometimes incomplete housekeeping, and food quality that varies by table.

What nobody disputes: the complete absence of hidden fees. The rate booked is the rate paid, with no energy surcharge or tax added at checkout. Against neighbouring hotels that apply mandatory daily fees, the real gap is wider than it looks.

Who this address suits

It suits couples, honeymoons, destination weddings, certified divers who want two dives a day at no extra cost, and travellers who hate reaching for their wallet on vacation.

It suits less well families, solo travellers, groups of friends, and anyone dreaming of an immense empty beach. The island's formula comparison sits on Nassau all-inclusive, the whole archipelago on Bahamas travel, and other sun destinations on all-inclusive vacations.
