Ships of CroisiEurope

CroisiEurope: a European name, but most of the volume is on the Mekong, the Zambezi and Lake Kariba

Start with the fact that surprises everyone, ourselves included when we counted. The four busiest boats on our CroisiEurope calendar do not sail in Europe. RV Indochine on the Mekong, MV Zimbabwean Dream on Lake Kariba, RV African Dream on the Zambezi, and RV Indochine II on the Mekong as well. Between them they carry more than a quarter of everything we programme for this line. The name records where the line came from, not where it takes you.

What we carry

It is one of the largest river fleets on this site. The same course is run again and again: that is the nature of river cruising, the same locks and the same towns, and variety comes from dates more than from the track. The number of cruises currently on offer is shown at the top of this page.

Where CroisiEurope comes from

Founded in 1976 by Gérard Schmitter, in Strasbourg, and still held by the same family into a third generation. 2026 is its fiftieth year. Our list is longer than the fleet the line presents, because it keeps chartered boats and boats that have left the fleet. The gap is not an error on their side or ours: they are two lists that count different things.

The boats with no departures, and what they are

Some of the boats on the list carry no departure with us at the moment. We do not treat them as one block, because they are not one. Four are Russian boats that never belonged to CroisiEurope: they are owned by Vodohod, the Russian river line, and were chartered. Two belong to Pandaw and work in India today, on the Brahmaputra and the Ganges. One belongs to Jungle Experiences, in Peru. For the rest, no source tells us what became of them, and we will not write it.

What the line says is included

Full board, drinks included at meals and at the bar — the special list and the wine list excepted —, onboard entertainment, audio guides during excursions and Wi-Fi. Drinks at the bar, and not only at meals, are what sets its fare apart from most river lines: that is the point to hold on to if you are comparing. Optional excursions are charged on top of the ones announced, and on gratuities the line says nothing — so we will not assert it either way. We report what the line announces; we have not checked it departure by departure. Ask your advisor for the written list before booking.

Where to look next

MS Michelangelo is the first properly European boat in the ranking. It makes a useful comparison: same owner, same announced fare, ground with nothing in common with the Zambezi.

Frequently Asked Questions

Around fifty, on Europe's rivers but also on the Mekong, the Zambezi, Lake Kariba and the Ganges. The number of cruises currently on offer is shown at the top of this page.
RV Indochine, MV Zimbabwean Dream, RV African Dream and RV Indochine II. None of the four sails in Europe: the first two are on the Mekong and Lake Kariba, the third on the Zambezi, the fourth on the Mekong as well.
Yes, and that is where the volume sits. The name records where the line came from, not the limit of its ground. The Mekong, the Zambezi, Lake Kariba and the Ganges are in its catalogue alongside the Rhine and the Rhône. If Europe is what you want, say so: half the calendar is elsewhere.
Not all of them, all the time. Some of the boats on the list carry no departure on our calendar at the moment: chartered boats, boats sold on, boats working elsewhere. The detail is set out above.
We do not treat them as one block. Four are Russian boats that never belonged to CroisiEurope: they are owned by Vodohod, the Russian river line, and were chartered. Two belong to Pandaw and work in India today. One belongs to Jungle Experiences, in Peru. For the rest, no source tells us what became of them, and we will not invent one.
It announces full board, drinks included at meals and at the bar — the special list and the wine list excepted —, onboard entertainment, audio guides during excursions and Wi-Fi. Drinks at the bar, and not only at meals, are what sets its fare apart from most river houses. We report what the line announces; we have not checked it departure by departure.
Optional excursions are charged on top of the ones announced. On gratuities the line says nothing, so we will not assert it either way. Ask your advisor for the written list before booking, not after.
Often, yes. Your advisor can look beyond what appears here. The online catalogue is a way in, not the limit of what exists.
It depends on the departure, not on the line. If French matters to you, say so before booking: it is checked departure by departure.
The ground and the rhythm. A river links towns a few hours apart and never has a heavy-weather day. The sea imposes days at sea and ports that sometimes close at the last minute. They are two different voyages, not two price brackets.
On small boats, yes: when a ship carries two hundred people and a route is not repeated, cabins go early. Booking far ahead fixes a choice but commits money years in advance. Talk cancellation terms through with your advisor before you decide.
Because the boat carries no departure on our calendar. The page stays online because the boat exists and you are looking for it; it then says what it is and where it went, when we know.
Anyone who wants the animation of a big ship. These fleets count in tens or hundreds of people, not thousands: few shows, few dining choices, a slow rhythm. That is the product, not a shortfall.
Your agency, and it alone. Voyages AquaTerra operates under a licence from Quebec's Office de la protection du consommateur, your payments pass through a trust account, and the compensation fund for travel agency clients covers your departure. That holds whichever line you choose.
