The fiftieth anniversary ship
Uniworld was founded in 1976. S.S. Emilie entered service in March 2026, the
year of the fiftieth anniversary, and the line makes no secret of it. It is also
its first newbuild in several years, which matters more than a round number: a
new hull allows choices that converting an existing ship forbids.
The decor quotes Viennese Art Nouveau and Gustav Klimt. The name comes from
Emilie Floge, fashion designer and the painter's companion. Gold-leaf ceilings,
dark joinery, jewel tones. As often with this line, the taste is loaded and
owned rather than discreet.
The hull
One hundred and thirty-five metres, 154 guests, 57 crew. The ship opens a
series of three identical hulls: two more follow in 2027, with the same length,
the same capacity and the same cabin plan.
Uniworld does not publish deck counts for its ships, and we did not find one
established for this one. We would rather say so than offer a figure by analogy
with the other 135-metre hulls.
On the Danube
The ship works the Danube. Our inventory measured 181 departure dates on 26
August 2026, already a wide calendar for a ship in its first year. The upper
river, between Passau and Budapest, lines up Vienna, Bratislava and the Wachau
valley over a short distance.
Its two sisters arrive in 2027, including S.S. Marlene on the same river. To compare
with the established Danube hulls, look at S.S. Maria Theresa and S.S. Beatrice. On the Rhine, S.S. Elisabeth offers
more space per person for an identical length.
What the package pays for
Shipboard gratuities form part of the package, which removes the most
awkward question of the last evening. Meals are included, with a selection of
wines, beers and spirits offered through the day. Scheduled excursions and the
transfers in your file are included too.
Wi-Fi is a courtesy service with no commitment on speed. Expect
interruptions, particularly in locks and on remote sections.
Excluded: airfare, visas, travel insurance, laundry, spa, communications and
optional excursions.
Before booking for someone with reduced mobility
The contract speaks of reasonable efforts and stops there. No mobility
equipment is made available, and a companion capable of assisting is required.
The quay, the gangway and the cobblestones of old towns do the rest. Ask for
written confirmation about the chosen ship rather than relying on a general
description of the fleet.
Arranging the departure from Quebec
The journey from Montreal happens in two stages: an overnight flight to
Europe, then a transfer to the port of embarkation. Travellers who arrive the
same day often board exhausted. Those who allow themselves a night on the
ground start the cruise properly.
Voyages AquaTerra holds a Quebec travel agent licence. Your payments move
through a trust account and the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel
Agents protects your file. Your advisor will explain exactly what that covers.
