Viking Ocean Cruises: no guest under eighteen, and everything follows from that

As with its river sister, Viking accepts nobody under eighteen, and there is no casino, no children's club and no art auction aboard. It is the first thing to check if you travel as a family.

What we carry, measured

The fleet reaches a great many different places, unlike river cruising where the same rivers come back season after season. A few ships carry no dates with us at the moment. The number of cruises currently on sale is shown at the top of this page.

The size, and the word not to believe

The first ships carry about 930 guests, the later ones a little under a thousand. You often read that these are small ships: this is the small end of the large ships, not a small ship. A genuinely small ship carries one or two hundred people. Nine hundred is a middle format, with what that implies about which berths are open to it and which are not.

Two expedition ships in the same fleet

Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris are Viking's two expedition ships, in service from January 2022, and with us they sit in this fleet. They sail nearly as much as Viking Jupiter. They are not the same voyages, though: ice, landings by inflatable, hours set by the weather.

What the line says is included

One shore excursion per port, Wi-Fi, beer, wine and soft drinks at lunch and dinner, access to the thermal area, the specialty restaurants, self-service laundry and room service around the clock. We report what the line announces; we have not checked it departure by departure.
