The sister ship, delivered in 2023

Scenic Eclipse II came out of the MKM Yachts yard at Rijeka in 2023, a shipbuilding arm of the group that owns the line. It repeats the design of its 2019 elder: the same length of about 168 metres, 114 suites, ice class 1A Super, two helicopters and a manned submersible.

Published sources do not agree on its gross tonnage or on its capacity in ordinary operation. Two serious technical sheets give different figures, and we will not arbitrate between them on a page meant for a client. What they do agree on: 200 guests at most in polar waters, the limit set by landing rules in Antarctica.

The calendar shared with the first Eclipse

The two ships currently show the same calendar on this site: 172 identical dates, day for day, measured on 26 August 2026 across both pages. Yet these are two distinct ships, with programmes that ought to differ.

This is a defect in our inventory, not information about the ships. It has been reported to the site's technical team and logged in our tracking file. Until it is corrected, have your advisor confirm which ship operates the date you are considering. It is the kind of detail that matters not at all until the day it matters a great deal.

What to expect from an expedition

The helicopters and the submersible work, but their use depends on weather, swell and local permits. Tomorrow's programme is given the evening before and sometimes changes on the morning itself. A whole cruise can pass without a single take-off being possible, and that is worth knowing before leaving rather than learning aboard.

The other ships in the fleet

Scenic Eclipse is its direct elder. Scenic Spirit serves the Mekong, Scenic Azure the Douro, and Scenic Opal rotates the Rhine, the Danube and the Moselle.

The fare, line by line

Gratuities are included. That is the first difference noticed by travellers used to lines where the end-of-cruise envelope is part of the ritual. Here nothing is added to your bill on that account, not for the crew, not for the guides, not for the drivers.

Meals are included, with the wines and standard spirits served at table. Wi-Fi is included. Every suite has a butler. Freechoice excursions give you a choice at each port, which beats one outing imposed on a hundred and sixty people. Enrich events open places closed to the public, and the Sundowners set up a reception at dusk somewhere along the way.

Air travel depends on the package. Depending on the market and the season, the line sells the same itinerary with or without the flight. Ask your advisor to confirm which of the two carries the date you are considering.

What life aboard assumes

An adult clientele, a day shaped by the port calls, and short evenings. There is no children's club and no childcare; the practical threshold is around twelve years. Saying otherwise would sell a voyage that disappoints the family before the first week is out.

The lift serves the main decks and stops short of the sun deck. Suites fitted for reduced mobility sit near reception on every ship. Their number varies from hull to hull and is worth checking on the deck plan.

What a Quebec agency protects

A licence from Quebec's Office de la protection du consommateur, a trust account for the sums received, and the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents. Three verifiable things, and the licence number appears on your contract. A booking made outside Quebec gives no right to them.

To that add something the law does not provide: someone who answers when a connection collapses in Frankfurt on a Sunday night and the ship leaves the next morning.

Frequently Asked Questions

By year and yard, mainly. Delivered in 2023 by MKM Yachts at Rijeka, it repeats the design of its 2019 elder: the same approximate length, 114 suites, the same ice class, the same expedition equipment.
Two hundred at most in polar waters, a figure the sources agree on. For ordinary operation the published technical sheets contradict one another, and we will not arbitrate between them here.
Because two serious technical sources give two different ones. Choosing in silence would present a guess as a fact. Your advisor can have the exact figure confirmed by the line.
It is a defect in our inventory, measured on 26 August 2026: both pages carry 172 identical dates, day for day. The point has been reported to the site's technical team.
Have your advisor confirm it before booking. Until the shared calendar is corrected, the page cannot tell which of the two sisters operates a given departure.
Our inventory measured 172 departure dates on 26 August 2026, from 2026 to 2029. The figure is identical to the sister ship's, which is precisely the defect reported.
Yes, two helicopters and a manned submersible. Their use depends on weather, swell and local permits, and no line can guarantee an outing on a given date.
Ice class 1A Super, like its elder. That allows navigation in first-year ice under the conditions set by the polar code.
On the European river ships, no: it opens onto a high fixed window on the lower deck. The retractable glass balcony, the line's signature, starts on the decks above.
At the MKM Yachts yard in Rijeka, Croatia. It is a shipbuilding arm of the group that owns the line, which is unusual in the sector.
The measured routes cover Antarctica, South America and northern Europe, on dates running to 2029. The exact split between the two sisters remains to be confirmed, given the shared calendar.
No. Ice and swell decide. Tomorrow's programme is given the evening before and sometimes changes on the morning itself, which is what separates an expedition from a cruise.
Yes, entirely. Gratuities for the crew, the guides and the drivers are all in the cruise fare. It is one of the clearest lines in this line's formula.
That depends on the arrangement you book. Some packages include the travel out, others leave it to you. Ask your advisor to confirm in writing what your file covers.
For the trust account and the Compensation Fund for Customers of Travel Agents, neither of which follows a booking made outside Quebec. Add someone who answers when a connection collapses the day before embarkation.
