A ship born three times

The hull left the MV Werften yard in Wismar in 2017, as Crystal Mahler. It then sailed as Riverside Mahler, then for one season under a third name for another operator, before joining Uniworld in 2025. Four names in eight years.

That history is not a curiosity. It records the restructuring of a sector where the brand changes faster than the steel, and it explains why this ship does not resemble the other hulls in the fleet. It was designed for a different line, with different ideas about what a cabin should be.

The hull

One hundred and thirty-five metres, 110 guests, 41 crew. That is the distinctive part: a large hull with few people on it. The 55 accommodations are consequently generous, and two adjoining suites can be combined into a two-bedroom apartment.

Uniworld charters this ship under a three-year arrangement with its German owner and staffs it with its own crew. What follows that arrangement is not publicly established, which is worth knowing before booking far into the future.

On the Rhine

The ship works the Rhine, on the classic itineraries between Basel and Amsterdam. The river crosses four countries, the Middle Rhine gorge lines up its castles, and sailing days stay short because the cities follow one another closely.

Its sister is S.S. Victoria. For a large capacity on the same river, look at S.S. Antoinette. S.S. Beatrice covers three rivers, and S.S. Emilie arrived on the Danube in 2026.

What the package contains

Shipboard gratuities included. Meals included. A selection of wines, beers and spirits served through the day. Scheduled excursions and the transfers in your file included. Bicycles, walking poles and onboard fitness sessions included as well.

Wi-Fi comes as a courtesy and without guarantee. It weakens in locks and vanishes on some stretches. If you need to stay reachable for work, arrange something that does not depend on the ship.

Not included: airfare, visas, travel insurance, laundry, spa treatments, communication charges and optional excursions.

Accessibility: what the contract actually says

Reasonable efforts, with no guarantee of full accessibility. No mobility equipment supplied. A companion able to assist is required for any traveller who needs help. Add a gangway whose slope varies with the water level and excursions that often run over cobblestones. The question of a lift belongs to each ship individually and deserves a written answer before you pay a deposit.

From Montreal

Allow a full day in transit outbound. Evening flights to Europe arrive the following morning, and the body takes two or three days to settle into the new time zone. A hotel night before embarkation turns a ragged arrival into a clean start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, several. Built in 2017 as Crystal Mahler, it then sailed as Riverside Mahler, then for one season under another name for a different operator, before joining Uniworld in 2025.
No. The ship is chartered under a three-year arrangement with its German owner. Uniworld staffs it with its own crew and applies its own service.
One hundred and ten guests in 55 accommodations, with 41 crew. On a 135-metre hull that is a low density, and it explains the size of the cabins.
Yes, two adjoining suites can be combined into a two-bedroom apartment. That is rare in river cruising, and useful for a family or two couples travelling together.
S.S. Victoria, formerly Crystal Bach, which joined the Uniworld fleet in 2024. Both hulls come from the same series built at Wismar and carry the same capacity.
In 2017, at the MV Werften yard in Wismar, Germany. Uniworld publishes no refurbishment year for this ship, which means the figure is not established.
The Rhine, on the classic itineraries between Basel and Amsterdam. The river crosses four countries and the Middle Rhine gorge lines up castles over a short distance.
Yes, on suite categories, as on the line's other European ships. Lower categories do not include it, and the service is not offered anywhere in the fleet outside Europe.
Yes, within the spa, along with a fitness room and a massage room. The ship has three dining venues, which is generous for a hull carrying only 110 guests.
Our inventory measured 114 departure dates on 26 August 2026. That figure comes from counting the departures actually shown on the public page, not from an estimate.
For a cruise already booked, no. For a booking far ahead, a chartered ship can leave a fleet faster than an owned one. It is one more reason to have your date confirmed.
April and May for the Dutch tulips, September for the harvest, late November and December for the Christmas markets. July and August are hot and the river is busy.
The line may reroute, move guests by coach or swap two ships. The contract provides for these measures without refund, which is what makes travel insurance relevant.
It is offered as a courtesy, with no guarantee of availability or speed. Locks and remote stretches cut the connection. Arrange something else if you must stay reachable.
