Booking a cabin on a ship that has not sailed
S.S. Audrey enters service in 2027. Every date we show is therefore a future
one, on a ship still under construction as these lines are written. This is done
routinely and generally goes well. Three things are still worth knowing.
First: a ship delivery can slip. Yards accumulate delays like everyone else,
and an April departure sometimes becomes a June one. Second: the first season is
a shakedown season, with a crew still discovering itself. Third: cabin plans
published before delivery are reliable on areas and less so on details.
None of these reservations is a reason to walk away. They are reasons to take
travel insurance that covers postponement and to keep flexibility on the air
ticket.
The announced hull
One hundred and thirty-five metres, 154 guests, 57 crew. The ship is the
second of a series of three identical hulls, opened by a ship that entered
service in 2026. Same length, same capacity, same cabin plan, different
decor.
The name honours Audrey Hepburn, born in Brussels, in the region the ship
works. A Grand Suite can be paired with an adjoining cabin to form a single
two-part accommodation.
Rhine, Main and Moselle
Three waterways rather than one. The Moselle is the most interesting segment:
narrow, winding, banked with steep vineyards, with closely spaced locks that
oblige the ship to move slowly.
Its sisters are S.S. Emilie, already in service, and S.S. Marlene, expected the same year. To
sail the Rhine right now, look at S.S. Victoria and S.S. Antoinette.
What the package contains
Shipboard gratuities included. Meals included. A selection of wines, beers
and spirits served through the day. Scheduled excursions and the transfers in
your file included. Bicycles, walking poles and onboard fitness sessions
included as well.
Wi-Fi comes as a courtesy and without guarantee. It weakens in locks and
vanishes on some stretches. If you need to stay reachable for work, arrange
something that does not depend on the ship.
Not included: airfare, visas, travel insurance, laundry, spa treatments,
communication charges and optional excursions.
Accessibility: what the contract actually says
Reasonable efforts, with no guarantee of full accessibility. No mobility
equipment supplied. A companion able to assist is required for any traveller who
needs help. Add a gangway whose slope varies with the water level and excursions
that often run over cobblestones. The question of a lift belongs to each ship
individually and deserves a written answer before you pay a deposit.
From Montreal
Allow a full day in transit outbound. Evening flights to Europe arrive the
following morning, and the body takes two or three days to settle into the new
time zone. A hotel night before embarkation turns a ragged arrival into a clean
start.
