JOIA Aruba by Iberostar opened in December 2024: the Spanish group's first property on the island, and a purpose-built resort rather than a takeover of an existing hotel. The U-shaped building holds 240 suites across five floors in sixteen different configurations, a spa with a hydrothermal circuit, the ZIMA rooftop bar and a convention centre. JOIA Aruba by Iberostar at a glance

Iberostar's first hotel on Aruba opened in December 2024, with its official ceremony in early 2025. It bears saying plainly, because the confusion circulates: JOIA Aruba is a new build, not the takeover of a former Iberostar on the island. No property of the group preceded it here.

Adults-only? The answer is no

Here is the other misunderstanding worth clearing up. Iberostar's JOIA collection is in principle adults-only, but JOIA Aruba is the exception: children are welcome, and the resort runs a club for four- to twelve-year-olds. Several booking sites still list it wrongly as an adults-only hotel.

Certain zones do stay adults-only: the infinity pool, the ZIMA rooftop bar and the Swim Out suites with direct water access. The minimum age to stay unaccompanied is twenty-one. This mixed arrangement lets a family and a child-free couple stay in the same place without treading on each other.

Which suite to choose

The resort offers nothing but suites. King and Double Queen categories of around 55 square metres come in garden, ocean and pool views. The Swim Out suites, slightly larger, open directly onto the water and are reserved for adults.

At the top sits a butler-service range: the Master King Suite at around 112 square metres, the Oceanfront King Suite, the Oceanfront Royal King Suite at around 122, and the Side Ocean View King Suite. Several of these carry a whirlpool on the private terrace, a novelty for the island when it opened.

Where you eat on site

Bucatini Market and Cucina handles the morning buffet and shifts to Italian at dinner. Marea works contemporary Caribbean cooking. A third restaurant is built around an open-fire grill, in the surf-and-turf register.

On the bar side, ZIMA occupies the roof and stays adults-only, the Aqua Bar serves the pool as a swim-up, and a lobby bar and the Star Café round things out for coffee, tea and pastries. Unusually for an Aruba resort, the restaurants also welcome outside guests and island residents.

Is it an all-inclusive?

The question deserves a precise answer, because the plan sold varies by tour operator. Some distribute the address as all-inclusive, others as a room rate with a meal plan offered as an upgrade. That is exactly the kind of detail that changes the real cost of a week.

The spa, the pools and wellness

The spa is one of the address's strongest arguments: a hydrothermal circuit, seven treatment and relaxation spaces, and treatment cabanas with a sea view. The products come from Aruba Aloe, the local house that has worked the island's aloe for more than a century, and from Babor.

Several pools spread across the grounds, including an adults-only infinity pool with a swim-up bar. The fitness centre and the wellness spaces complete the picture. The resort also gives access to the Tierra del Sol golf course, designed by Robert Trent Jones II.

Eagle Beach and the setting

The resort faces Eagle Beach, the beach that regularly tops world rankings: exceptionally wide, fine white sand, calm water, low buildings rather than towers, and the divi-divi trees bent by the trade winds. The lively Palm Beach strip is a few minutes away by car.

What to know before you book

Allow about fifteen minutes by road between Queen Beatrix International Airport and Eagle Beach. Aruba lies outside the hurricane belt and the trade winds blow year-round: they hold the humidity down, keep seaweed away from this coast and mask how strong the sun is, so sunscreen goes on more often than you would think.
