Palm Beach or Eagle Beach: what actually changes

The Hyatt sits on Palm Beach, the animated stretch of the west coast. Hotels form an unbroken row, the boardwalk lines up restaurants, shops and casinos, and the watersports operators work the sand directly in front. Step out of the lobby and you are already in the middle of it.

Eagle Beach, a few kilometres south, is wider and quieter, edged with low buildings and the divi-divi trees bent by the trade winds. Couples looking for space prefer it. Choosing between the two is a question of temperament rather than quality, because the sand is superb on both.

Which room to choose

Entry categories offer a king bed or two queens, looking onto the gardens or the pool. Partial Oceanfront Deluxe rooms catch the sea at an angle, and the Oceanfront Sunset Studio Deluxe rooms, rebuilt during the renovation, face it squarely, sunset included. For most travellers that is what justifies the step up.

Above them sit the Orquidea, Cayena, Trinitaria and Palms suites, the family suite, and the Governor's Suite redone in 2025 with three private balconies. Families should ask early about the two-double-bed layouts and connecting rooms, which move quickly between December and April.

Where you eat on site

Five restaurants cover different registers. ShinSen handles Japanese food and sushi. Piccolo, opened with the 2025 renovation, does the steakhouse work and runs a kosher service and a Shabbat menu. Ruinas del Mar, reimagined the same year, blends Caribbean and Mediterranean cooking in a courtyard built to look like old ruins. Palms Beachside Grill takes care of breakfast and light lunches near the water, and Pizzaiolo covers the informal evenings.

On the bar side, Piet's Pier reaches out over the water, Balashi Bar and Grill serves the main pool, the Trankilo bar serves the adult pool, and Alfresco, the Palms Beach Bar, the Kadushi Juice Bar and the Shoco Coffee Bar fill the gaps. The Palm Beach restaurant row also starts a few minutes' walk away.

Travelling with children

Camp Hyatt structures the children's days with daily supervised activities, waterslide races and scavenger hunts among them. Babysitting can be booked for evenings. The two-storey slide, the tallest at any resort on the island, accounts for a good share of the afternoons on its own.

The main pool spreads across several levels with waterfalls, a swim-up bar and water volleyball, while a separate basin takes the youngest swimmers. In front of the resort, the Palm Beach water shelves gently and stays calm, which leaves children a wide zone where they can still stand.

The pools, the spa and the casino

Two worlds coexist here. The Trankilo pool, reserved for adults, keeps the quiet and offers spa treatments given right at the water's edge. The activity pool, at the other end of the property, embraces the noise, the music and the slide. Choosing your side in the morning is enough to get the day you wanted.

ZoiA Spa, refreshed during the recent works, covers massages and body treatments. The casino occupies just over 1 000 square metres with close to 200 machines, video poker terminals and a dozen tables. It opens in the evening and draws a relaxed crowd.

Who this resort suits

It fits families who want a real beach, a supervised kids' club and a waterslide that fills the afternoons. It fits couples who appreciate a mature garden and a child-free pool a few steps from the action. And it fits travellers who plan to eat their way around the island and would rather skip a package they would only half use.

What to know before you book

Aruba sits outside the hurricane belt and the trade winds blow year-round. Those winds are the island's natural air conditioning: they hold the humidity down, they keep the seaweed that reaches the east coast away from this shore, and they mask how strong the sun is. Sunscreen goes on more often than instinct suggests.

The Aruban florin is the official currency, though US dollars circulate everywhere and outlets follow the North American standard.
