Carimar Beach Club at a glance
Twenty-four condominium villas set directly on the sand at Meads Bay, spread across six small two-storey buildings arranged in a horseshoe around a tropical garden. Every unit has a full kitchen. There is no restaurant, no bar and no pool on the property.
This is a place to stay, not a package. You cook, you order in, or you walk five minutes to the restaurants on the bay. The travellers who love it come back every winter for years; anyone looking for a wristband and a buffet should look elsewhere.
Is Carimar Beach Club all-inclusive?
No, and that is the first thing to understand before booking.
The property offers no meal plan of any kind. There is no restaurant on site, no bar, and no room service in the usual sense. What you book is a beachfront holiday apartment with daily housekeeping and access to the facilities.
You have three ways to eat. The kitchen in your unit, fully equipped, stocked from the island's grocery stores. A local caterer who delivers on site, from breakfast through dessert, on request. Or the restaurants of Meads Bay, all within walking distance.
For a family or a couple staying two or three weeks, this arrangement often costs less than an all-inclusive and gives far more freedom. For a one-week holiday where the goal is to decide nothing, it asks for an effort not everyone wants to make.
Getting there from Quebec
No direct flight links Montreal to Anguilla. The usual route runs through St. Martin.
You fly into Princess Juliana (SXM), then cross to Anguilla one of two ways. The public ferry leaves from Marigot on the French side eight times a day, and the crossing takes about twenty minutes. A seven-minute connecting flight also runs from the St. Maarten airport to Clayton J. Lloyd airport in Anguilla.
From the Anguilla airport and from the Blowing Point ferry terminal alike, allow ten to fifteen minutes by taxi to Meads Bay.
Direct flights to Anguilla do exist from Boston, Newark and Baltimore, twice a week, from December to April. Depending where you start, they can be worth examining, and that is the kind of calculation an advisor runs faster than you will.

One bedroom or two: choosing your unit
Carimar offers two formats only, and the real question is which side of the horseshoe rather than which size.

Every unit has a full kitchen with granite counters, a living room, a dining area and a private terrace. Housekeeping comes daily. Self-service laundry is on site.
The distinction that matters is between the beachfront units and the beach-view ones. The first open straight onto the sand, a few steps from the water. The second look out to sea from the back of the horseshoe, with the garden between you and the beach. The first cost more and offer less privacy, since the public path along the sand runs past their terraces. The second are quieter and add thirty seconds of walking.
Ask as well where the air conditioning sits in the unit you are offered. Some sources report it serves the bedrooms without necessarily covering the living room, which changes how a February evening feels.
Meads Bay, the beach in front of the property
Meads Bay is one of Anguilla's great beaches, roughly a mile and a half of very fine white sand with no reef offshore. The water is clear and swimming is generally excellent. Loungers and umbrellas are provided.
One detail the brochures leave out: in winter, when northern swells come down, Meads Bay can develop a pronounced shorebreak and rip currents. It stays a swimming beach most of the time, and it is worth knowing before letting a child play alone in the waves on a January morning.
Anguilla's west coast, which includes Meads Bay, has historically seen far less sargassum than the island's east side. The brown weed that ruins weeks of holiday in Mexico is rarely a factor here.
Where to eat, since the property has no restaurant
Meads Bay is one of the best-served bays on the island for dining, and that is what makes the missing restaurant bearable.
Blanchards is a five-minute walk away, one of Anguilla's best-known tables, with its casual sibling the Blanchards Beach Shack right on the sand. Straw Hat and Jacala are also within walking distance. Ocean Echo rounds out the bay.
For evenings when nobody feels like going out, a local caterer delivers to Carimar, from breakfast through dinner. Arrange it in advance at the front desk.
For cooking, the island has decent grocery stores. Plan a first stop on arrival, because Anguilla's opening hours are not Quebec's.
What is on the property

- Bicycles, snorkelling gear, kayaks and paddleboards, at no cost.
- Free wifi throughout.
- Free parking, useful if you rent a car.
- Self-service laundry and daily housekeeping.
There is no pool, and the property owns that: the sea is twenty metres away.
Do you need a rental car?
Not necessarily. Taxis wait at the airport and the ferry terminal, and the Meads Bay restaurants are walkable. Plenty of Carimar guests spend the week without ever driving.
A car becomes useful if you want to see the island, and Anguilla rewards it: sixteen miles long, some thirty beaches, and empty bays no taxi will take you to. The bicycles the property lends cover the short distances.
Who Carimar suits
- The long winter stay. Two or three weeks with a kitchen, a laundry and a beach outside the door. The loyalty of the clientele says a lot: families have returned every year for decades.
- Families with children who eat early. Dinner in the apartment, bedtime on schedule, no negotiating with a restaurant service.
- Travellers who want space. A 102 m² unit with two bathrooms compares poorly with a hotel room, in the unit's favour.
- Anyone done with all-inclusives. Anguilla is eaten in village restaurants, not at a buffet.
Who it does not suit
- Anyone wanting all-inclusive. None exists here, in any form.
- Anyone who needs a pool. There is none.
- Anyone looking for entertainment and evening shows. Carimar is a quiet place.
- Anyone travelling for one week who wants zero logistics. The connection through St. Martin adds half a day at each end.
What to know before booking
Three things come up repeatedly in guest reviews, and they deserve saying.
Noise from next door. A watersports operation works the beach alongside and plays music in the evening. Depending on your unit and the night, you hear it.
Privacy on the beachfront terraces. The public path along the sand runs past the units closest to the water. You are on the beach, in every sense.
Beach erosion. Guests have recently reported the sand narrowing in places. Others noticed nothing. It is a Caribbean reality, and your advisor can ask about current conditions before you book.
Add the calendar. High season runs December to March, peaking in January and February. Hurricane season runs June to November. The property came through Hurricane Irma in 2017 with minor damage, and its staff were back cleaning up the next day.
