The hotel is currently closed for renovation, and that is good news. Work began on 1 May 2026 and reopening is announced for November 2026.

The Barbados Beach Club is a one-hundred-and-eight-room all-inclusive set directly on Maxwell Beach, on the south coast. Its beach is unanimously described as one of the finest in the area, and that is what long made up for the rest. The building itself needed the work.

We are taking reservations for the period after reopening. This page tells you frankly what the hotel was, what the works should fix, and what to verify before confirming.

The beach, and why it always rescued this hotel

Let us start with what will not change. The Barbados Beach Club is directly on Maxwell Beach, white sand on the south coast, and even the guests harshest about the building always wrote that the beach was superb.

The Maxwell area is among the best sheltered on the south coast, thanks to breakwaters that break the swell. The water keeps just enough movement to be fun without becoming difficult, and children can paddle under supervision. An outdoor pool, a tennis court, kayaking, snorkelling, paddleboarding and aquafit round things out, all included.

What the works needed to fix

We will not sell you this hotel by pretending it was fine. Its pre-closure score sat at 3.5 out of 5 across more than sixteen hundred reviews, the lowest in its area, and the comments were unambiguous: a tired property, with damaged concrete, damp and facilities past their age.

That is precisely why the closure is good news. Six months of work on a hotel this size is not a coat of paint. A guest in February 2026, still on site, confirmed themselves that the house was closing soon to be redone.

What we cannot tell you yet: the exact scope of the works and what the hotel will be on reopening. The property has published no statement. The November 2026 date comes from a tour operator, not from the hotel itself.

Our advice, and it is simple

Book, but have your advisor confirm two things before you pay: the reopening date and the actual state of the delivered product. We will have both verified with the supplier at 1 866 628-6241.

A stay in the first weeks after a reopening always carries a risk of unfinished details. If your dates are tight, aim for December or January rather than November and you will travel with an easy mind.

What the hotel offered, and should offer again

One hundred and eight rooms across two seven-storey buildings, in Deluxe, Super Deluxe, Honeymoon and Penthouse suite categories. Balcony or terrace, air conditioning, small fridge and safe. There is no kitchen: this is a classic all-inclusive, not an aparthotel.

On the dining side, the Veranda by the pool handles the buffet for all three meals, and the Reef View offers a seafood-leaning menu, open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday only, with possible supplements on some dishes. That is few evenings: check the schedule if you want to eat there more than once.

The formula covers meals, local brands, entertainment and non-motorized activities. Daily resort fees are added on site, along with the Barbadian tourism levies per room per night. Wi-Fi and parking are free.

A word on sargassum

The south coast receives it in episodes, mainly April to August, and 2026 looks like a heavy year across the Caribbean basin. Nothing is certain week to week, though: it all depends on currents and wind, and many stays pass without a sighting.

Our article on sargassum in 2026 covers it. Good news for your dates: a November reopening puts your stay outside the peak period, and the island's west coast is practically spared in any case if you prefer that side.

Where to stay meanwhile, in the same area

Three addresses in Maxwell and nearby are welcoming travellers right now.

Bougainvillea Barbados, on the same beach, offers units with kitchens or kitchenettes and the best score on the south coast. Sea Breeze Beach House is the area's strongest all-inclusive, with six restaurants and a kids club. And the Butterfly Beach hotel, close by, offers studios and apartments at gentle prices.

The island overview sits on Barbados all-inclusive, and other sun destinations on all-inclusive vacations.

Who this address will suit

Travellers who want a simple, affordable all-inclusive with a genuinely fine beach outside the door, families who do not need ten restaurants, and those who prefer a human-scale hotel to a large resort.

It will suit less well anyone looking for a kitchen in the unit, a wide variety of tables, or an absolute guarantee on the state of the product in the first weeks after the works.
