This is the silhouette everyone recognizes: two towers joined by a bridge above Paradise Island. The Royal holds 1,201 rooms, all refurbished in 2023, and the Imperial Club reopened in 2026 after a refresh.

It is also the most central tower at Atlantis. The casino, The Dig aquarium, the Aura nightclub, the resort's major restaurants and Aquaventure all sit a few minutes away. You walk less here than at the Reef or the Cove, and that is a real argument when travelling with young children.

The trade-off is the crowd. The Royal sits at the centre of the traffic, including day visitors arriving from cruise ships, and you feel it.

The balcony trap, to settle before you pay

Here is a detail almost nobody will tell you, and it is worth reading twice.

Standard rooms at the Royal have a full balcony, the kind where you can put out a chair and sit. Premium rooms, which cost more, have a French balcony: a railing in front of a glass door, with no depth, handsome floor-to-ceiling windows but no usable outdoor space.

The higher category therefore gives you more interior space and a choice of views, but less balcony. If morning coffee outside is part of your vacation, tell your advisor at 1 866 628-6241 and choose accordingly. That one piece of information saves stays.

The rooms and suites

Standard rooms run around thirty-seven square metres, with a king bed or two queens, and a terrace, harbour or water view. Premium rooms add floor area and a wider choice of views.

Above them: the Regal Suites, the Grand Suites, the Presidential, the Royal Suite, and the famous ten-room Bridge Suite suspended between the two towers, redone in 2024. The larger suites sleep up to nine.

The Imperial Club, the best buy at Atlantis

If one thing in the whole resort deserves an upgrade, it is this. Recent Royal reviews are harsh, and yet Imperial Club guests describe a different week from everyone else.

The lounge occupies the nineteenth floor of the east tower, reached by private key-access elevators. It serves a continental breakfast in the morning, snacks through the day, and complimentary cocktails in late afternoon. Add private check-in and check-out, a dedicated concierge, a welcome gift, and butler service from the Grand Suites up.

An important point for families: unlike the Lapis lounge at the Cove, restricted to twelve and over, the Imperial Club welcomes accompanied children.

The Dig, and why you should see it

The aquarium in the Royal's lobby is not decoration. It is one of the resort's major attractions: more than two hundred and fifty species, manta rays, moray eels, and a set of imagined ruins children explore for hours. It comes with the wristband, as does Aquaventure with its twenty swimming areas spread across one hundred and forty-one acres.

The sixty-thousand-square-foot casino, rebuilt in 2023, is the largest in the Caribbean and adjoins the tower.

Eating and drinking without leaving

Plato's opens from early morning into the night, as pastry counter and sports bar. Poseidon's Table handles the international buffet morning and evening. A Starbucks covers coffee. The Dilly Club moves from café to cocktails. Sea Glass runs the tapas lounge, Bar Sol the ultra-lounge at the edge of the casino floor with live music, the Moon Bar whisky in the evening, and Aura the nightclub from Thursday to Saturday.

Steps away: Nobu, Café Martinique, Seafire Steakhouse and Chop Stix. The first two require smart dress and a reservation. Book on arrival.

What travellers complain about

This has to be said as it is. The Royal scores 3.7 out of 5 across more than twelve thousand reviews, and recent comments are severe.

Check-in waits reach two to three hours on some days. In-room failures are reported: air conditioning, plumbing, equipment noise in the corridors. Despite the renovation, stains and odours persist in some carpets. Undisclosed construction drew complaints in 2026, and the spa was sold at full rate while under works.

Crowding comes up constantly: one guest compares the resort to an airport terminal at peak hour, because of day-trippers from the ships. Several recommend limiting a Royal stay to a few nights.

Against that, the same comments name individual employees with gratitude, and praise the marine exhibits, the beaches and Aquaventure. The property is magnificent. It is the operation that stumbles.

What to know about the formula

Atlantis is not all-inclusive. A daily resort fee applies per room, in the resort's lower bracket alongside the Coral, covering Aquaventure and Wi-Fi. A service charge is added automatically to tabs. Prepaid meal plans are suspended.

The airport is about fifteen kilometres away, roughly thirty minutes, with no free shuttle.

Who this address suits

It suits those who want to be at the centre of everything, families who want to walk as little as possible, casino players, nightlife lovers, and above all those who step up to the Imperial level.

It suits less well anyone seeking quiet, anyone travelling in high season without tolerance for crowds, anyone who wants a real balcony in an upper category, and anyone who needs a fast check-in. For quiet and space, see the Reef. The formula comparison sits on Nassau all-inclusive, and the archipelago on Bahamas travel.
