Radisson Aquatica occupies Aquatic Gap, on Carlisle Bay, minutes from Bridgetown. The hotel sits at the end of a cul-de-sac, which gives it something few south coast addresses have : quiet.

And it has a daily spectacle travellers talk about endlessly afterwards : the Garrison racehorses come down to swim at the beach every morning.

The Garrison horses, and why it is more than an anecdote

Every morning, the racehorses trained at Garrison Savannah come down to Carlisle Bay to swim. It is not a tourist attraction, it is the grooms' routine, and you watch it from your lounger.

We put it first because it is exactly the sort of thing a booking engine will never tell you, and because travellers who have seen it mention it in almost every review. Get up early once : it is worth taking your coffee standing.

The plan : European, and you need to know

Radisson Aquatica sells without meals. The official site refers to meal plans available for purchase, and the tour operators that distribute it sell only the European plan. No all-inclusive exists, not even hidden with an operator.

We stress this because the confusion exists elsewhere on the island : at Accra Beach, for instance, an all-inclusive exists only through tour operators. Here it does not.

The trade-off is excellent and the location makes it easy. You are about two kilometres from Bridgetown, with the UNESCO-listed historic quarter, the Garrison and a genuine local restaurant scene close by. Travellers name Cuz's Fish Stand and Blush Café, two popular spots in the area.

Our advisors cost the stay with a realistic food budget, so the comparison with a south coast all-inclusive rests on complete figures.

Carlisle Bay : the best beach situation in the area

This is where the address stands clearly apart, and we say so because it is rare in Barbados at the moment.

No complaints of erosion, rocks or sargassum surface in the recent reviews. Carlisle Bay's water is described as calm and turquoise, suited to swimming, paddleboarding and snorkelling. The tourism board describes a mile and a half of white sand on the bay.

Two honest nuances. Travellers mention surfers and paddleboarders, which signals real swell on some days. And the beach umbrellas are sometimes poorly placed for shade.

On sargassum, the December to February window remains historically the best, without being a guarantee : 2026 ranks second all time for volumes landed in the Caribbean, and residue from 2025 survived at sea. Our feature covers it : Sargassum seaweed in the Caribbean and Mexico in 2026. Our advisors have the shoreline checked before every departure.

One last rare advantage, mentioned spontaneously by travellers : there is no road noise. The hotel being at the end of a cul-de-sac, you hear only the sea.

The rooms

Radisson Aquatica has 124 rooms, a figure confirmed by three independent sources.

The categories : Standard with partial island or ocean view and two double beds, Oceanview also with two doubles, Beach View with a king bed and a view over the pool and beach, and Oceanview King. The site also mentions junior suites.

Their condition deserves frankness. Recent reviews describe dated rooms, with temperamental showers and slow drains. They also report too few power outlets and a basic tea and coffee set-up. These are not serious faults, but they recur enough to be said.

The property is entirely non-smoking.

Dining and facilities

  • The Aquatic Club Restaurant : international cooking, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, buffet and à la carte.
  • Neptune's Grill : Caribbean and relaxed, by the pool, for drinks, snacks and lunch.

Add a pool bar and room service. An outdoor pool and a children's wading pool complete the picture, with loungers and umbrellas.

Two reservations drawn from the reviews. Restaurant service is slow, and the pool is short of loungers, for lack of space around the water. The problem is at the pool rather than on the beach, which is the reverse of most addresses on the island.

On breakfast, reviews contradict each other outright : one guest finds it very basic, another rates it among the best on the island. The gap is real and you will only know once there.

The water activities mentioned are paddleboarding, snorkelling and swimming.

Where Radisson Aquatica is

The hotel occupies Aquatic Gap, in the parish of Saint Michael, on Carlisle Bay. Bridgetown is about two kilometres away, and Grantley Adams International Airport some fifteen.

One useful caution : you will see a figure of four kilometres to the airport and fifteen to Bridgetown on the Barbados tourism board's site. That is visibly reversed or wrong, Aquatic Gap being minutes from the capital. Trust your advisor rather than that listing.

The transfer is not included ; a car with driver is available at extra cost. Wifi is complimentary and parking is available, with accessible spaces.

A government levy per room per night is paid on site, and a deposit is required on arrival, by card or cash.

A direct Montreal to Bridgetown service starts on 13 December 2026, twice weekly through the winter season. Outside those departures, plan on a connection.

Families and children

This is a good point. Children aged twelve and under stay free, under the policy the hotel publishes, and cots are complimentary on request. Up to two children twelve and under are accepted through tour operators.

Minimum check-in age is eighteen. There is no children's club with published age brackets, but supervised childcare is available at extra cost. The wading pool suits toddlers.

What to know before booking

The address holds 3.9 out of 5 across more than 2,200 reviews, and 7.6 out of 10 on the online agencies.

The documented complaints, stated simply : dated rooms with plumbing problems, slow table service, uneven housekeeping and front desk, birds coming in during meals, and dishes sometimes served cold. The price of breakfast and of themed dinners also disappointed some guests.

One useful note for shopping around : this hotel's listing on at least one major online agency still requires a screening test from several years ago. That is outdated content, and a sign those listings are not maintained for this property. Come through us and you get current information.

What recurs on the positive side : the quiet, the bay, the morning horses, and staff members travellers name personally.

Climate

Barbados sits at the southern edge of the hurricane belt, east of the Antillean arc. The last major strike was Hurricane Janet, in 1955. The dry season runs December to May, with days around 29 °C and nights rarely below 22 °C. For entry requirements, consult travel.gc.ca.

Who Radisson Aquatica suits

This address will suit travellers who want calm water, quiet, and the capital two kilometres away for exploring, eating and shopping. Snorkellers and paddleboarders are well served by Carlisle Bay. Children twelve and under stay free, which helps a family.

It will suit less well anyone who wants an all-inclusive, a freshly renovated product, or a large pool deck. For a true all-inclusive, your advisor will steer you toward Sugar Bay, in the same Garrison area.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The hotel runs on breakfast or European plan only, and no tour operator sells an all-inclusive package here, unlike some of its south coast neighbours. Lunch and dinner are paid on site or elsewhere. Our advisor at 1 866 628-6241 will confirm which plan applies to your dates.
About twenty minutes by road. One warning if you check visitbarbados.org: the distances listed for this hotel are visibly reversed, showing the airport closer than Bridgetown when the opposite is true. Downtown Bridgetown is a few minutes on foot.
It is the best beach situation in the area. Recent reviews report no erosion, no rocky bottom and no sargassum build-up in front of the hotel. Pale sand, calm water, and a sheltered bay.
Yes, and it is the local morning ritual. The Garrison Savannah horses walk down to bathe in Carlisle Bay at first light. Get up around six and sit on the sand: the show costs nothing and exists nowhere else in this form.
Very little. The hotel sits at the end of a cul-de-sac, away from traffic. That is a real advantage over several south coast properties planted directly on the main road.
They show their age. Reviews regularly mention temperamental plumbing and tired furnishings. Cleanliness is not the issue, deep maintenance is. Ask for a renovated room when booking, our advisor can have the request noted on file.
This is the most frequently cited weak point, mainly at the restaurant and bar. Allow time, or eat out: the in-town location puts dozens of addresses within walking distance, which is rarely the case elsewhere in Barbados.
Twelve and under stay free in the parents' room. Exact conditions vary by room category and season, so have them confirmed before booking.
Not always. At peak hours the pool runs short of chairs. The beach has more and sits a few steps away. That is the simplest workaround.
Ignore them and check with us. One platform still lists a screening test that has been gone for years, proof those listings are no longer maintained. For actual entry conditions, consult travel.gc.ca.
