At the new port, about two kilometres west of the historic centre. Most lines run a shuttle to the edge of the Old Fortress; on foot it is roughly twenty minutes along a flat, pleasant waterfront.
Yes, the old town is entirely walkable once you reach the Spianada. Only the Achilleion, ten kilometres to the southwest, needs the number 10 bus from San Rocco Square, a taxi or an excursion.

Because four centuries of Venetian rule left weathered facades, elegant arcades and a distinct way of life. The whole old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The island's patron saint rests there in a silver casket, and locals come to greet him at all hours, candles in hand. Its red-domed bell tower is the tallest in the Ionian Islands and serves as a landmark in the lanes.
Candied kumquat, a local speciality sold in old town shops, and pastitsada, a cinnamon-scented stew simmering in the tavernas of the kantounia.
The euro and Greek, with English widely spoken: Corfu has welcomed visitors for a long time. Cards work almost everywhere; keep cash for the local bus and small purchases.
