Frequently Asked Questions
At the World Cruise Center, Berth 93 in the Port of Los Angeles at San Pedro, about 40 kilometres south of downtown. Long Beach, the other terminal, mainly hosts Carnival ships. This is not a call where you step off beside the famous sights.
The arrival neighbourhood, yes. A pedestrian promenade links the berth to the battleship USS Iowa, the maritime museum and the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, and downtown San Pedro is a little over a kilometre away. The wider city requires a vehicle.
Stay on the waterfront. The battleship USS Iowa can be explored from bridge to gun turrets, the maritime museum tells the story of the fishermen and dockers who built America's largest port complex, and downtown San Pedro offers galleries and cafes. Aiming for Hollywood on that little time means spending the day in traffic.
About 45 minutes for the 40 kilometres, and longer at rush hour. Hollywood and the Walk of Fame are roughly 50 kilometres away. The golden rule: pick one area and respect the traffic, which turns distances into hours.
Yes, about fifteen kilometres east at Long Beach. The 1936 transatlantic liner, permanently moored, works as a floating museum of the golden age of crossings: panelled lounges, period cabins, engine room. The Aquarium of the Pacific is next door.
Yes, and the waterfront often suffices. The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium suits younger children, the battleship USS Iowa impresses, and the fishing boats and tugs moving through the channel hold attention. The Aquarium of the Pacific at Long Beach is worth the trip on a long call.
Taxis and app-based cars are easy to summon from the terminal. Several ship excursions cover Hollywood, Beverly Hills or Santa Monica, with the advantage of a guaranteed return aboard — a serious argument in a metropolis where traffic is unpredictable.
About thirty kilometres from the World Cruise Center. Allow generous time on embarkation or disembarkation day: Southern California traffic can double the trip without warning.
Santa Monica and its pier, or Venice and its skaters, make for a more relaxed day than downtown or Hollywood. Still factor the drive and the traffic into your plan.
Southern California's climate almost always favours the passenger: reliable sun, dry air and clear light from morning to evening. The US dollar is the currency and cards are accepted everywhere.
