It is the only village in the Paris region listed among the Plus Beaux Villages de France. A white chalk cliff pierced with cavities follows the Seine's meander and holds a cluster of roofs at its foot, with a medieval keep on top for more than eight centuries.

Yes, Monet's gardens are about fifteen minutes away by coach and several itineraries offer the excursion. Be aware that Giverny easily fills half a day: those who go see little of the village. Staying put is not a lesser choice.
