At the Friday Harbor port landing, right in the heart of the village. Only small expedition ships call here, and you step ashore a few paces from the first shops.
Yes, entirely. The town fits into a few streets climbing gently from the pier: art galleries, bookshops, cafés and ice cream counters set in 19th-century wooden buildings.
The Whale Museum, three blocks from the landing, then a stroll through the village and its farmers' stalls. If the schedule allows, a whale-watching outing from the harbour docks fills an afternoon nicely.
The first American museum devoted to a species living in the wild, founded in 1979. Suspended skeletons, recorded songs and exhibits on the southern resident orcas, families identified one by one by researchers.
