Description
At Liverpool's Cavern Club, the vaulted brick walls still hold the warmth of the Beatles' first concerts. A week later, in the Highlands, a bagpipe echoes by a loch. Between the two, this tour crosses Great Britain from south to north, by motorcoach and then by train.
England opens the journey with its scholarly cities, Cambridge and Oxford, where you walk among the colleges. York keeps its Shambles and its cathedral with vast stained glass, Chester its half-timbered houses, Bath its Roman baths and the Royal Crescent. Three nights in London leave time to choose between free museums, parks and markets. The train then speeds north to Glasgow.
Scotland saves the best for last: Loch Lomond, Glen Coe, Eilean Donan Castle on its islet, the Isle of Skye to Portree and the Mallaig ferry. The tour ends in Edinburgh, with entrance to the castle that overlooks the city.
