Description
The trip begins in Zagreb, among Austro-Hungarian façades and café terraces, then turns green at Plitvice, where sixteen turquoise lakes spill into one another. In Zadar, the Sea Organ plays with the waves and the Greeting to the Sun lights up as the day ends. The road then follows the Adriatic: Šibenik's stone cathedral, the lanes of Trogir, then Split, where people still live within the walls of Diocletian's Palace.
The following days slow down. You taste olive oil at Stella Croatica, climb to Klis Fortress and glide by traditional boat through the Neretva orchards. Korčula, Marco Polo's presumed birthplace, is explored on foot before a wine tasting on the Pelješac peninsula. The Ston salt pans, worked since Antiquity, herald Dubrovnik.
Four nights for the Pearl of the Adriatic, its walls and Rector's Palace, with a day in Montenegro through the Bay of Kotor and the islet of Our Lady of the Rocks. The trip ends around a peka, the dish meant for sharing.
